Thomas HOBKIRK & Elizabeth PARRY & Eleanor PEGUS

Our thanks goes to Glenys Bolland for supplying most of the information in this section on the Hobkirks of Westminster.
We would also like to thank Margaret Pegus for her assistance.

It appears that Thomas HOBKIRK was married twice. This was not uncommon, and the second marriage is often a marriage of convenience where a widow and widower have children and need the assistance of another to raise their families. It was not uncommon for women to die in child birth, and this is possibly what happened to Thomas' first wife.

Thomas HOBKIRK married Elizabeth PARRY on 22 March 1748 at St. George Mayfair, Westminster, London

From this union we have the following known children:

Adam HOBKIRK, born about 1749 (See the linked page for why we believe Adam is the son of Thomas & Elizabeth)

Walter HOBKIRK, born 2 April 1750 and christened 16 April 1750 at Swallow Street Scotch Church, Westminster.

(For future reference, it should be noted that a Walter Hobkirk married an Elespith Winlaw on Dec18, 1785 in Westminster)
(This couple had a daughter named Mary Ann Hobkirk on 17 May 1798, christened in London.)

Margaret HOBKIRK, born 15 Sep 1751 and christened 22 Sep 1750 at Swallow Street Scotch Church, Westminster.

Thomas HOBKIRK, born 25 July 1753 and christened 20 Aug 1753 at Swallow Street Scotch Church, Westminster.

Thomas HOBKIRK married Eleanor PEGUS on 13 July 1760 at Saint Martin in the Fields, Westminster, London

From this union we have the following known children:

Jane Eleanor HOBKIRK, christened 7 July 1761 at Saint Martin in the Fields, Westminster, London

John Peter HOBKIRK, christened 12 July 1763 at Saint Martin in the Fields, Westminster, London

Jane Dorothy HOBKIRK, christened 31 Jan 1765 at Saint Martins in the Fields, Westminster, London

From a will dated in 1768, Thomas HOBKIRK died in the UK and left everything to his wife Eleanor and 2 children, John and Joan. Thomas was a widower when he married Eleanor.

MEMO: There seems to be no marriage for the Thomas Hobkirk, born 1753, and he is not mentioned in the 1809 Will of his brother Adam's son William, so he is probably the Thomas HOBKIRK who died 3 June 1760 in London.
