Annie P. HOBKIRK & William Percy MATTOON

Annie P. Hobkirk was born in May 1882 in Scotland to Robert HOBKIRK & Ann FOWLER

Annie's father probably died between 1882 and 1895.

Annie and her mother and brothers moved to the USA in 1890.

Her mother remarried in the earloy 1890's to James Nilson (or Wilson) and they were living in Austin, Macon, Illinois, as of the 1900 census.

We can not find them in the 1910 census.

In 1920 the family is living in Gowrie, Webster County, Iowa.
W. P. Mattoon is age 44, a farmer, born in Illinois, his father was born in Illinois and his mother was born in Ohio. Annie is 38, born in Scotland, as were her parents. Also in the household are Robert, age 9, Bessie age 7, Leroy age 5 and Lester age 2 3/12. Annie is a naturalized citizen..

The 1925 Iowa census gives us some good information. Annie and William are living in Boone, Hancock County, Iowa. William is a farmer, born in Illinois and Wlliam's father is Eugene Mattoon, born in Ohio and his mother's last name is Boily, born in Oklahoma. His parents were married in Ohio. Annie's father is Robert Hobkirk and her mother is Ann Folwer, both born and married in Scotland. Also in the home are Robert E., age 15, Bessie E. age 12, William L age 10 and Lester P age 7. Their father was born in Illinois, their mother in Scotland and their parents were married in Oklahoma.

From the 1930 census we find this family living in Lu Verne, Kossuth County, Iowa. William P age 54, Anna P, age 47, Robert E. age 20, Bessie E age 18, William L age 15 and Lester P age 12. William rents his farm and his son Robert is a farm laborer.
Ages at marriage are listed as William P., age 33, Anna P age 26 and Robert E, age 20. So Robert must have just married been married, but where is his wife?

From the 1940 census we find William P., age 63, Annie P. age 57, and their sons William L, age 25 and Lester P, age 22 living at Britt, Hancock County, Iowa. William P.'s highest grade attained was the 5th grade. Ammie's highest grade of education was 7th grade. William L's highest grade attained was the 8th grade and Lester's highest grade attained was the 4th grade. William P, William L and Lester are all farmers.
