Clarence John HOBKIRK was the second son of John HOBKIRK & Margaret LEISHMAN
Clarence John HOBKIRK was born 16 July 1869 in Edinburgh.  

On 4 November 1897 Clarence married Nora Louisa BOSANQUET.  Nora was born 7 September 1872 at Ahmadnagar, India.  She died 18 Aug 1958 at Kensington, LND, England.

Clarence John HOBKIRK was educated at Cheltenham College and Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He was commissioned into the 44th Essex Regiment and served in the South African War from 1900 to 1902 and was mentioned twice in dispatches. He served in India from 1902 to 1907. He was also the British Military Attache in Rome and Berne. He rose to Acting Major General in World War I.  He was awarded the CMG and DSO, and was mentioned 6 times in dispatches. Dispatches would be reports that went from the military back to the head office. He was wounded during WWI and was discharged as unfit for service in 1920.  (Our thanks goes to Sharon Crawford for supplying this information about Clarence John HOBKIRK.)

Brigadier-General Clarence John HOBKIRK CMG, DSO resided at Cleddon Hall, Trellech, Mon, England, until his death on 9 September 1949.

Clarence and Nora had the following children:

     Elspeth Isabel Wetherley HOBKIRK, born 17 May 1903, Shenfield, ESS, England
            She died 21 August 1990, Edinburgh, Scotland.  Spouse is unknown.
