Walter HOPEKIRK

Walter HOPEKIRK was the son of Robert Craigie HOPEKIRK and Mary WEBB

Walter was baptized on 10 October 1848 at the Parish of St. Martin in the City of Exeter, Devon, England. His parents wwere Robert and Mary HOPEKIRK of 42 High Street, St. Martin Parish. Robert's occupation is listed as Hairdresser and Perfumer. The rector was Norwood Tucker. Go here to view the original baptism record.

From the 1851 census Walter is 2 years old and the family is still residing at 42 High Street, Exeter.

From the 1861 census Walter is now 12 and his family is now living at 42 High Street, Exeter.

From the 1871 census Walter HOPEKIRK is living with the James Hodge family at 63 Paris Street, St. Sidwell, Exeter He is a reporter.

From the Trewman's Exeter Flying Post or Plymouth and Cornish Advertiser on Wednesday, April 14, 1875: issue 5757 we learn the following: "From the Natal Colonist, published ar=t Durham, states that Mr. Walter Hopekirk, son of the late Mr. Hopekirk of High Street, has been engaged on that hournal as Sub-Editor and Reporter." On 11 August 1889 at Port Elizabeth Walter passed away, at age 40. His executor is listed as I Allen, his sister.

From 1896 we have the final Probate of Walter's estate in the amount of  168 pounds and change.
