Flora HOPEKIRK & Frank B. HOCKIN

Flora HOPEKIRK was the 4th child of Robert HOPEKIRK and Mary WEBB

Flora HOPEKIRK was born 6 March 1843 in St. Lawrence, Exeter, Devonshire, per her Baptism record of 1846, when she was baptised along with her younger sisters Mary and Frances Margaret, all on the 1st of October 1846, by her parents Robert and Mary of High Street, St. Martins, Exeter. Robert is a Hasirdresser and Perfumer.  Norwood Tucker was the Rector for the Baptism. View the Baptism record.

As of 1851 she was living with her parents at 42 High Street, St. Martin, Exeter, Devonshire, and listed as a Scholar

As of 1861 she is living with the John Redfern(a draper) Family at 41 High Street, Victoria House, West Cowes.
She is listed as a Milliner, age 18, unmarried, born at Exeter, Devonshire.

In the 4th quarter of 1866 Flora HOPEKIRK and Frank B HOCKIN were married in the Isle of Wight registration District.

Frank B. HOCKIN was born about 1845.

From ther 1871 census we find Frank B HOCKIN, age 26, a Chemist and Druggist born at Evesham, Worcestershire, England.. The family is living at 52 West Street,Great Marlow, Great Marlow, Buckinghamshire, England. Also in the residence is his wife Flora, age 27, born in Exeter, Devon; their 3 year old daughter Edith S. born on the Isle of Wight and 4 month old son Ernest H HOCKIN born.at Great Marlow, Buckinghamshire, England.  View the 1871 census

From the 1881 census we find the exact same family group, all 10 years older, living at 23 Queens Gardens, Brighton, County of Sussex, England. Frank is a Chemist Assistant, born in Worcestershire, England. Flora HOCKIN is now 37, born in Devon, England. Edith H HOCKIN is 13, born at Isle of Wight, Hampshire, a scholar and Ernest H HOCKIN is now 10, born at Buckinghamshire, a scholar. View 1881 census

In the 4th quarter of 1890 Frank Balhatchet HOCKIN, chemist, passed away at John Street, Ryde, on the Isle of Wight, Hampshire, at the age of 46.  On 24 November 1890 he was buried at the Ryde Cemetery on West Street, Ryde, Isle of Wight.  From the Saturday 29th November 1890 issue of the Isle of Wight County Press Frank Balhatchet HOCKIN passed away from rapid consumption on 20 November 1890. A view of the entrance to the Ryde Cemetery can be seen on Find-A-Grave website, unfortunately Frank's gravestone is not in the database.

From the 1891 census we find Flora HOCKIN, age 46, widow at 48 Kemp Street, in a 3 room home. born at Exeter, Devon. Also in the residence is Ernest H HOCKIN, son, age 19, a Photo Assistant, born at Great Marlow, Buckinghamshire and daughter Edith F. HOCKIN, age 22 a Milliner, born at Freshwater, Isle of Wight.
