John Francis HOBKIRK was the son of John Peter HOBKIRK and Frances Mary LECESNE

John Francis HOBKIRK was born about August 1829, possibly in Rio De Janeiro.

In 1851 John F. HOBKIRK married Charlotte Hope ATKINSON in 1859. Charlotte was born about 1836.

     Mary Hope HOBKIRK, died 5 April 1867, age 4 months, daughter of assigner of insolvent court, VDL.

     Mabel Coralie HOBKIRK, born 23 January 1868 at Launceston. Mabel died 16 Feb 1873 VDL.

Charlotte Hope Atkinson HOBKIRK passed away in 1871, aged 35.

John Francis HOBKIRK married Eliza MADDEN or ATKINSON on 2 May 1877 at Launceston, VDL

     John and Eliza had one known child:

     Neville James HOBKIRK, born 15 August 1879 at Launceston, VDL. Neville died 27 May 1885 at Launceston.

Around 1834 John Francis HOBKIRK developed a swelling under his right arm. His parents,  John F. and his two younger sisters Mary Coralie and Louisa Jane traveled from Brazil to England aboard the "Gold Finch" for John F's treatment. The family also travelled to Normandy, France. In 1835 the family returned to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, leaving John Francis in England to attend school.

Around 1839 John Francis returned to Rio.

Around 1842 John Francis joined his mother and sisters in the UK.

Around 1844 the family traveled to to Italy, and lived with his Uncle Mr. Keilchen, the Counsel General of Russia to the Roman States

Around 1848 John Francis, travelling with his Uncle, had an audience with the Pope. It was just the 3 of them for 20 minutes.

Around 1854 John Francis went into business with his father as "Hobkirk & Son" The business was eventually sold and John Francis partnered with another man in a new school. John Francis could speak 4 languages.

John Francis HOBKIRK died in 1912 at Launceston.
