George HOBKIRK was the son of John HOBKIRK & Ann MILBURN

George married Rebecca IRWIN at Chester Le Street, Durham, on 9 July 1837


George and Rebecca had the following known children:

     Ann Bell HOBKIRK, born in the Sept. quarter of 1838 at Tanfield, Durham, England. She first married a man named Lumley, than one named Cooper.

     John HOBKIRK was born 7 August 1843 and christened 3 September 1843 at Tanfield, Durham, England

     Rebecca HOBKIRK, was born in the September quarter of 1848. She died 25 June 1862 at age 13.

     Mary HOBKIRK, born in the September quarter 1851. She married a man named Dawson.

From the 1841 census, George is age 25, his wife Rebecca is listed as 35 and they have a 2 year old daughter named Ann.
George is listed as being born at Durham. They are living at Tanfield, and George is a Coal miner.
So given naming tradition, Ann is probably Rebecca's mother's name.

From the 1851 census, George is 35, a Coal miner, born in Durham, Rebecca is 38, Daughter Ann Bell is 12, son John is 8 and daughter Rebecca is 2.
The family is living at Holmside, Tanfield, Durham, England.

From the 1861 census, George is 50, Rebecca is 48, John is 17, Rebecca is 13 and Mary is 9. George and John are both Coal Miners.
