Isabel(7) HOPKIRK was the second child of William HOPKIRK and Jane REDPATH

Isabel HOPKIRK was born in Rochester, New York on January 24 1837.

Isabel HOPKIRK and William BANKHEAD married on 2 August 1860 in Jefferson County, Iowa

Isabel and William had the following children:

     Jane "Jennie" Elisabeth BANKHEAD, born 12 Oct 1861 near Lockridge, Jefferson County, Iowa. She married James Ryan

     Hugh Lincoln BANKHEAD, born 24 Oct 1863 near Lockridge, Jefferson County, Iowa. From 1888 Tehama voter registration Hugh was a Teacher, age 24.

     William Robert BANKHEAD, born 22 Jan 1866 near Lockridge, Jefferson County, Iowa

     Anna Isabell BANKHEAD, born 29 July 1868. Anna Isabell married William Swetzer. A grand neice remembers her as being very sweet natured, but after a car accident in whcih her husband braked hard to avoid a train, she sustained a concussion which changed her temperment. After the accident "she cussed like a sailor" 

     Margaret Lilly BANKHEAD, born 12 Dec 1870 in Weston, Lewis County, West Virginia

     Mary Emma BANKHEAD, born 2 June 1873 Lockridge, Jefferson County, Iowa (Mary Emma passed away at age 18 years, 6 months after swimming in an irrigation canal. The water may have been polluted from cattle and she died from pneumonia)

     Agnes May BANKHEAD, born 11 Feb 1876 in Clayton, Contra Costa County, California

     Jessie Florence BANKHEAD, born 26 Nov 1880 in Loomis, Placer County, California

The census also states that Isabel was the mother of 8 children, 7 living, and that Jennie E. was the mother 4 children, all living. James Ryan immigrated to USA in 1876.

David also says that Susie Belle Ryan married Clarence Emil Anderson in November 1911. They had one son before Susie B. (Ryan) Anderson died 25 April 1913 in Sausalito, Marin Co., California. There are descendants of this branch of the family.  James S. Ryan was born 20 Feb 1855 in Nile, Ontario, Canada.  He died 22 Jan 1926 at Rocklin, Placer Co., California.  Jennie E. (Bankhead) Ryan is believed to have died 10 May 1932 in Tehama Co., California.
