John HOPKIRK was the youngest child of William HOPKIRK & Eliza STEWART
John HOPKIRK was born 6 June 1863, at 145 Causewayside, Edinburgh.
John had a lot of occupations including an apprentice brassfinisher, tobacconist, and grocer's assistant and hotel porter.
On 29 June 1898 John married Annie McAuslane, in Edinburgh.
Annie was born about 1863, the daughter of George McAUSLANE, journeyman tailor, and Annie ROBERTSON.
John HOPKIRK and Annie McAUSLANE had one daughter:
Annie Robertson HOPKIRK was born 20 March 1899 at 21 Blackwood Crescent, Edinburgh, Midlothian.
From the 1901 census: this family was living at 26 Blackwood Crescent. Also living in the household was John's older sister Helen and Annie's 84 year old aunt, Janet McAUSLANE.
Annie Robertson HOPKIRK, a clerk, fell in love with an Australian soldier, Daniel George DRUMMOND. Daniel, a farmer from Gippsland, Victoria, son of William Peter DRUMMOND and Margaret DUNCAN was born about 1898. At the end of World War I, Daniel was a driver in the Australian Infantry Forces who met Annie Robertson HOPKIRK while she was living at 3 Livingston Place, Edinburgh. They got married on 21 March 1919 at Lady Glenorchy's Parish Church, St. Giles. The same day Daniel's unit reported him AWOL.(Absent without Leave)
Daniel was repatriated and from Australia he applied for passage to Australia for his wife. Mother-in-Law Annie McAUSLANE HOPKIRK accompanied her daughter Annie Robertson HOPKIRK DRUMMOND to Mitta Mitta, Victoria
John died on 30 September 1932, aged 69 years from chronic rheumatic myocarditis at Eastern General Hospital, Edinburgh. He had been living at 6 Brunswick Road, Edinburgh.

HOPKIRK was also a singer/entertainer and didn't like to work.
His wife (Annie McAuslane Hopkirk) left him and moved to Australia with their daughter(Annie Robertson Hopkirk).
