James (Jimmy) HOPKIRK and Joan McDOUGALL

James HOPKIRK was the son of Robert HOPKIRK and Mary Elizabeth CURRIE

James was born 7 July 1898 at 6 Smithfield Street, Edinburgh

James enlisted 22 February 1917 at age 18 years, 7 months. James was wounded in the left knee in France. He was discharged on 25 January 1919 with a 20% disability, and a pension paying 8/3 per week from 26 January 1919. He served in the 10th Kent Regiment, B Company. He was from Bunyard Cottage, Kirknewton and his mother's name was Mary Hopkirk.

James was a hire car operator by trade, Tweeddale Motors, Peebles.

James married Joan McDOUGAL on 12 August 1927 at the Leckie Memorial Church Hall, Peebles. Joan McDOUGAL was a nurse, the daughter of John McDOUGALL, blacksmith and Margaret TAIT(deceased).  Witnesses were Joan Mary SCOTT and Thomas Nichol HOPKIRK. James was 29 of Tweedale Garage, Peebles and Joan was 30 of Bonnycraig, Peebles. The minister was Moses TAGGART, Minister of Lyne & Megget, Moffat, Peebles.

James and his wife Joan lived in Moffatt and have one daughter still living:

     female HOPKIRK married John Gordon

     James (Jamie) Nichol HOPKIRK, born 19 July 1931 and he passed away on 26 January 1993. He had two daughters and one son. 

James(Jimmy) Hopkirk passed away on 23 January 1988, just short of his 90th birthday.
