Janet (Jenny) HOPKIRK was the daughter of Robert HOPKIRK and Mary Elizabeth CURRIE

Jenny was born 10 February 1891, at 50 Bread Street, Edinburgh

Jenny was a tea room waitress.

From the 1911 census Janet HOPKIRK was 20, living at Morningside, Edi\nburgh.

Jenny married Ernest Thomas STIFF on 5 February 1913 at 5 Queensferry Terrace, Edinburgh
Witnesses were Charles STIFF and Anna HENDERSON

Ernest Thomas STIFF was born 7 December 1892 St. George, Edinburgh, the son of Ernest Spensley STIFF(b. 1865) and Jessie REID/JOHNSTON(b.1862). Ernest, like his father, was a printer(machineman)

From the 1901 census the STIFF family was living at 11 Bread Street, Edinburgh. Ernest STIFF age 36, Jessie age 39, Eliza J age 11, Charles age 10, Ernest age 8, Jessie age 6, Sidney J age 3, Helen SIDDEL age 19, Rachel WATT age 33.

Ernest enlisted on 26 January 1916 and served in the Royal Scots Regiment. He was living at 6 Cumberland Street, Edinburgh. He was 5 feet 5 1/2 inches tall at the time of enlistment. He became a prisoner of war on 30 July 1916 and he was released on 1 December 1918.

It is believed they had the following children:

     May Elizabeth C. STIFF, born 6 May 1913. She married E. ERSKINE. They had no children.

     Ernest STIFF, born 4 January 1915. He married Bunty. They had a son.

     Beth (Bessie) STIFF, born 1920. She never married

     Edith Doris STIFF, born 1920. She never married

     Ronald (Ronnie) Sanders STIFF, born 30 May 1923, Morningside, Edinburgh. He married Christine Jeanette MUNRO in 1960. Christine was born 18 August 1941 in Shrewsbury, England Christine passed away on 20 February 1990 in Geneva, Switerland, and Ronnie passed away in 2010 in Switzerland. They had two sons.

     Ian STIFF born 29 August 1924. He married Ann and they had one daughter

Janet(Jenny) HOPKIRK STIFF passed away in 1985 in Edinburgh, age 74.
