James Trimble HIGGINS was the son of Robert E. HIGGINS and Jane ALLEN.

James Trimble HIGGINS was born 22 Aug 1854, probably in Clayton Township, Perry County, Ohio. He was the twin brother of Laura Jane HIGGINS.

James T. HIGGINS first appears in the 1860 census from Mt. Hope Township, McLean County, Illinois.

On 2 October 1879 James Trimble HIGGINS and Annie Mariah ETHELL were married in McLean County, Illinois. James and Annie later divorced.

The 1880 census shows this couple was living in the Spring Creek Area(now Ruskin) of Nucholls County, Nebraska. James is listed as 25, a farmer, born in Ohio, and both parents born in Ohio.   Annie M. Ethell is listed as 21, born in Ohio, and both parents born in Ohio. James is located on the same 1880 census page as is his twin sister Laura and his older brother Clarence.

Annie Mariah ETHELL, may have been born in Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio in 1859, the daughter of Thomas ETHELL and Jane TAVENER.

From the LDS I.G.I. files, we know that James T. HIGGINS possibly passed away on 24 February 1947 and Annie Mariah ETHELL passed away on 01 January 1930, in Topeka, Kansas..  I'm not sure about the accuracy of this information. There is a 1920 census record for an Annie M. HIGGINS, aged 60 in, born in Ohio, and parents born in Ohio. She is listed as a widow and a nurse. She is living with a Charles Rick?and his wife Harriet. She is listed as a mother, so she is probably Harriet's mother. If she is a widow, did James T. Higgins pass away before 1920?

James T. HIGGINS and Annie Mariah ETHELL had one son, Chester Earl HIGGINS, born 28 January 1891 in Sterling, Kansas.

Chester Earl HIGGINS married Mathilda ERICKSON on 22 March 1913. Mathilda was born in 1895 and she possibly died in California.

The 1900 Census for the Spring Creek Precinct does not have James T. HIGGINS listed.
