Peg & Paul's Wedding Day

Here is Peg's obituary: Margaret Mary ("Peg") McDonnell San Francisco native and longtime Burlingame resident Margaret ("Peg") McDonnell (nee Floyd) passed away in the company of her children on March 11th, a few short days after her 86th birthday. The third child of Frank & Sarah Floyd's five children, Peg was raised in San Francisco, attending Saint Agnes School and Presentation High School. Her mother came over from County Tipperary via steamship, bringing the values of the old country. Her father was born to immigrant parents on their Livermore Valley ranch. As for so many of her fellow Irish-Catholic-Americans the influence of the Church was profound. Family life was the center of her existence from early on as she grew up a part of a large extended family. That family grew by leaps and bounds as she and her peers started their own families in the post-war era. She and her husband, Paul, did their part raising eight children. She pushed her children to realize their potential. She gave them awareness of their heritage. She passed along her love of music, often treating them with a turn at the piano. Despite the myriad of health issues she faced in the later years of her life, she still exhibited the spark which characterized her from an early age, always enjoying the company of family and friends in conversation and celebration. Peg was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Paul, in 2005 and by her oldest son, James, in 2009. She is survived her sister, Claire D'Amico; her first cousins, Helen Whelan and James Gleeson; her seven loving children: Paul Jr., Stephen, Alice, Loretta, Cecilia, Timothy and Carmel; thirteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and countless nieces, nephews and cousins of different degrees. A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of Angels Church, Burlingame on Friday April 9th at 10:00 A.M., with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma. Please contact Crosby- N. Gray & Co.
