Margaret GLEESON & Denis RYAN
Our thanks goes to Gerard Ryan for supplying most of the information on this branch of the family.

Margaret GLEESON was the eldest daughter of William GLEESON and Honoria GLEESON, born 25 March 1859 and baptised 26 March 1859 in Silvermines, Tipperary, Ireland, Killaloe Diocese. Margaret's sponsor was listed as Margaret GLEESON. Dennis RYAN was born about 1860 in Ireland.

It is believed that Margaret GLEESON and Dennis RYAN married in Ireland and had a young son named Martin(named after his father's father Martin RYAN) born shortly before the trip to Australia. Young Martin died in Sydney at age 1, shortly after arrival in Australia. They had another unnamed male child born on board the ship travelling to Australia. That child probably died in Melbourne. The family arrived on 12 March 1884 on board the ship S.S. Warwick. View the record of the arrival of the family into Australia.   Here is just the Ryan portion of the arrival document.  As an aside, the SS Warwick was built in 1882, so was a rather new vessel when the Ryan's made their voyage. The ship ran aground on 30 December 1896 in the Bay of Fundy. Go here for more information about the vessel.    Here is an account of the wreck.

Margaret and Denis became Dairy Farmers, at Swan Marsh, Victoria, they had the following children born in Australia:

Ellen (Auntie Nellie) RYAN, married Jock VALE

     Helena (Lena) RYAN

Nora Mary RYAN, (1885-1938) married Richard SHERMAN (probably named after her mother Margaret's mother Honoria)

Joseph (Joe) RYAN, (1887-1933), married Ellen SEXTON

Thomas RYAN, (1896-1953), married Johannah RYAN

Agnes RYAN, (1900-1989), married Cecil LANCASTER
